WHO WAS HELENE SCHJERFBECK?

Helene Schjerfbeck (1862–1946) was a pioneering Finnish painter celebrated for her modernist portraits, still lifes, and self-portraits. Her style evolved dramatically over her lifetime—from delicate realism to bold, pared-back compositions that captured raw emotion with striking simplicity.

Today, she is regarded as one of Finland’s most important artists, whose work continues to inspire collectors and art lovers around the world.
