El Lissitzky

1890–1941 | Russian

A Russian artist, designer, and architect, El Lissitzky was a central figure in the Russian avant-garde and a key force in shaping modern graphic design. Working across painting, typography, and exhibition design, he sought to merge art with architecture and technology to serve social and political change. His bold use of geometric form, spatial illusion, and dynamic composition — especially in his Proun works — profoundly influenced Constructivism, the Bauhaus, and the entire course of twentieth-century visual communication.
