Helen Hyde

1868-1919 | American

An American printmaker and painter, Helen Hyde was known for her delicate color etchings and woodblock prints that blended Western techniques with the aesthetics of Japanese art. Living and working in Japan at the turn of the twentieth century, she studied traditional printmaking methods and portrayed everyday scenes of women and children with warmth and sensitivity. Her harmonious compositions and refined craftsmanship made her one of the most important American artists working in the Japonisme style.
