Mikuláš Galanda

1895-1938 | Slovak

A Slovak painter, illustrator, and graphic artist, Mikuláš Galanda was a key figure in bringing modern art to Slovakia. Influenced by Expressionism and Cubism, he combined bold forms, simplified shapes, and rich color to create poetic images that often explored national identity and human emotion. Through his work as both an artist and magazine illustrator, Galanda helped shape the visual language of Slovak modernism and inspired a new generation of avant-garde artists in Central Europe.
