Who was Mikuláš Galanda?
Mikuláš Galanda (1895–1938) was a Slovak modernist painter who helped redefine Central European art in the early 20th century. Blending Slovak folk motifs with bold influences from cubism and expressionism, he created poetic, emotionally charged works that felt strikingly modern. His paintings often featured clean lines, geometric forms, and subtle symbolism. As a co-founder of the Galanda Group, he pushed Slovak art beyond tradition and into the avant-garde, leaving a lasting legacy.
