Who was Jessie Marion King?

Jessie Marion King (1875–1949) was a Scottish illustrator, designer, and painter associated with the Glasgow Style and the wider Art Nouveau movement. She became one of the most distinctive figures of the so-called “Glasgow Girls,” a group of women who played a major role in shaping modern Scottish art. King first gained recognition for her intricate black-and-white book illustrations, characterised by elongated figures, delicate linework, and decorative, often mystical symbolism. Her work frequently accompanied fairy tales, literary classics, and romantic poetry.
