Who was Henri Rousseau?
Henri Rousseau (1844–1910) was a French Post-Impressionist painter best known for his imaginative jungle scenes. Largely self-taught, Rousseau developed a distinctive style characterised by simplified forms, bold colours, and a sense of quiet mystery that set him apart from academically trained artists. Although often mocked by critics during his lifetime for his naïve technique, his work later gained recognition for its originality and poetic vision.
