Who was George Barbier?

George Barbier (1882–1932) was a celebrated French illustrator and one of the defining artistic voices of the early 20th-century Art Deco movement. Renowned for his elegant, highly stylised compositions, Barbier helped shape the visual language of fashion, theatre, and luxury design during the 1910s and 1920s. Born in Nantes, France, he studied at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he developed a refined aesthetic influenced by classical art and Japanese prints.
