Who was Franz Marc?
Franz Marc (1880–1916) was a German painter and one of the most important artists of the Expressionist movement. A founding member of the Der Blaue Reiter (Blue Rider) group, he is best known for his colourful paintings of animals, which he saw as symbols of purity and spiritual truth. His work had a lasting influence on modern art, even though his career ended prematurely when he was killed during the First World War.
