Who was Ohara Koson ?

Ohara Koson (1877–1945) was a Japanese artist best known for his refined shin-hanga woodblock prints depicting birds, animals, and flowers. Trained originally as a painter, Ohara turned to printmaking in the early twentieth century and became celebrated for his delicate compositions and careful observation of nature. Working with major publishers, his prints combined traditional Japanese techniques with subtle Western influences in light and realism. He spent most of his life working in Tokyo, where he continued producing prints until his death in 1945.
